BMW S1000RR Ready to Go in Oz & MotoGP Testing in Qatar

The BMW S1000RR will also be campaigned in Australia - as readers of this blog will no doubt already know - in both the Asutralian Superbike Championship and in Australian Formula Xtreme. Craig Coxhell, a privateer champion, will be taking the new machine to the tracks in the ASBK series. More Afternoon Moto News - Amy O'Mara, Leon Camier & NZ Novice Wins on Aprilia

Amy O'Mara is the only woman competing full-time in the Australian Superbike Championship and this year she will be supported by the Warringah Mall Eagles Angels, a group which raises awareness for breast cancer. This season will see her remain on a Yamaha and compete in both the Superstock 600 class and the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship. She will be rather busy in 2010!

Leon Camier is quite pleased with the way the Aprilia factory team is treating him despite rumors that he is the second man on the team behind Max Biaggi. Camier states that he has been given the same parts and knowledge as Biaggi and is moving along in the right direction. Plus, the 2010 season for him is about learning the circuits and getting familiar with his team and the World Superbike series itself.

Dion Sellers is not a professional - or, even amateur - road racer, but he still managed to beat the best that New Zealand had at a local Formula 1 race! He had no interest until he watched a race last month. His friend convinced him to take his brand new Aprilia RSV-4 to the track for a fun day; he did so well that he decided to race the next day. His bone-stock RSV-4 managed to take out bikes worth more than twice as much which have been modified heavily to race. It was a big surprise, to say the least!

More Afternoon Moto News - Kevin Curtain, AMA Supercross & American Chopper

Australian Kevin Curtain has decided to race a Yamaha in the Australian Formula Xtreme Superstock 600 and Superstock 1000 classes. He was runner-up in both 2005 and 2006 in the World Supersport Championship on a Yamaha YZF-R6, so he has the experience. Curtain will also compete in the WSS round at Phillip Island.

The AMA Supercross event took place over the weekend in San Diego, California. It was a wet race, but one which saw Honda's Davi Millsaps take his first win in two years of racing. Suzuki racer Ryan Dungey does hold on to his lead in the series even after falling some two times in the opening lap. The next event will be 13 February 2010 in Anaheim (third and final visit there).

The Learning Channel has cancelled "American Chopper". The final episode will be this Thursday (11 February 2010) 21:00 EST. Given the legal fight between Paul Teutel Sr. and his son, Paul Teutel Jr., and his constant abuse of his other sons, it seems like the time is right.

Wednesday Morning Moto News - Speedway, SMR & Yamaha in Australia

This coming March, the Somerset Rebels will of course be holding their 10th Anniversary event at Oak Tree Arena. Well, we now have word of the first two racers to sign up for the Speedway fun. Shaun Muir Racing (SMR) has just announced that they have a new partner to help them field their British Superbike Championship team - Swan, who makes rolling papers (similar to Rizla), will be their chief sponsor for 2010. Apparently, Yamaha will also be leaving the Australian Superbike Championship to pursue a title in the 2010 Australian Formula Xtreme Championship. They will be taking some of their riders with them, but not all. This leaves on Suzuki as a full factory effort in the series, with others being 'supported by' some manufacturers. It is getting very thin there, but I bet the racing is much more interesting now that it is mostly a privateer effort. Still, the lack of money will not be good for ASBK.

Dunlop To Be Control Tire for Australian Superbike Championship for Next 3 Years

So, this is not all of the news, Dunlop has also secured rights to be the tire of choice for the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship Series for the next two years. In both series, Dunlop has also improved the contingency program to help racers with the costs associated with racing. The entire ASBK paddock will now be using only Dunlop tires for the next three years. It is an agreement which shows just how well Dunlop is performing for riders in these Australian championship series.
