OK, so Ducati now claims that the Strada Aperta will not, in fact, be made to compete with the various other manufacturer's 'adventure' bikes (i.e. BMW R1200GS). They want it to be a sportbike alternative - like a naked bike with long-travel suspension - and be more comfortable than the other Ducati offerings.
Some of the best news is that it will use the 1099 Testastretta Evoluzione engine from the original 1098 superbike (same engine as the Streetfighter). This engine is well-known for how smooth and powerful it is - and not severely expensive to produce.
The Strada Aperta will replace the Multistrada as the sales of the latter were rather sluggish.
