More Morning Moto News - BSB Rule Changes, James Ellison & Luke Jones

Over in the British Superbike Championship, the people running the series - MotoSport Vision - have changed the rules in order to change how the Championship is awarded. They are trying a new two seasons within one strategy which they hope will build a 'crescendo of competition' by the end of the season. They are also changing how Qualifying is done and how the starting line-up for Race 2 is set. Really, if you are even a casual fan of the series, this is something you must read.

Exactly why James Ellison is out of a ride for the 2010 season is a mystery to me. I do understand how he got to this point, but I do not understand why no one would want to hire the man who placed second in last year's BSB series. He has skill to spare and the desire to win every race - someone had better hire him soon or their competitors will and they will take the title!

Luke Jones is not having a hard time finding a team. The second runner-up in the BSB Superstock 600 class in 2009 will now ride for PR Racing in the 2010 BSB Championship. He will continue racing a Yamaha, moving from an R6 to and R1 for his new position.

GSE Racing - BSB Championship Team - May Have to Shut Down

Leon Camier won the British Superbike Championship for the Airwaves/GSE Racing team just this year. But, with their main sponsor - Airwaves - pulling the plug on sponsorship for 2010 (announced many weeks ago), the team may not have enough support to race in 2010. This is a very sad state of affairs when the champion's team cannot compete and defend their title...

Finally! Race Results from Sunday's Oulton Park BSB Rounds

Leon Camier could not get it done in race 1 on Saturday, but he sure made up for it on Sunday at Oulton Park. He took both race victories and brought his total to 19 wins on the 2009 season of the British Superbike Championship. The usual suspects filled out the podium in both races: Stuart Easton, James Ellison, Tommy Hill and Josh Brookes. It was an incredible weekend...if only they broadcast to the US...

Karl Harris Dominated BSB Oulton Park Practice

SMT Honda mounted Harris led both free practices at the Oulton Park BSB round. Leon Camier crashed pretty hard in the second practice and could not keep the pace. Tommy Hill came very close to Harris in FP2, but not FP1...Here are all Free Practice times available currently...

Leon Camier Wants to Win Final BSB Round at Oulton Park

If he manages to win all three races at the Oulton Park round, he will have achieved 20 race wins in his British Superbike 2009 season. As for now, he has taken 17 of 23 races. His teammate, James Ellison, has a 51 point lead over Hydrex Honda's Stuart Easton in the race for second place...

Airwaves Yamaha Will Say Goodbye at Oulton Park BSB Round

Airwaves has sponsored GSE Racing for five years, but they will not be there for them in 2010 as they have ended the deal. Still, team rider Leon Camier did secure the British Superbike Championship on his Yamaha YZF-R1 at the last round. I'm sure that they will find a replacement sponsor before next year - after all, everyone likes a winner.

Leon Camier Very Disappointed With Magny-Cours Performance on Aprilia RSV-4

Camier will be racing with the team next year, but he really wanted to show them what they had when they asked him to ride the new Aprilia RSV-4. Unfortunately, at Magny-Cours, technical issues forced him into two DNF results - not good. What race he did ride was rather impressive; starting from 16th place in both races and making 11th in the first and 9th in the second before bike issues surfaced. So, what about 2010? Well, we will see.

Camier and Byrne to Comprise Second Aprilia WSBK Team

Current BSB Champion Leon Camier and former BSB Champion Shane Byrne will make up the second Aprilia World Superbike team for 2010. Camier rode on the RSV-4 at Magny-Cours, but failed to finish when his machine broke down in both races. Byrne has ridden for Aprilia's MotoGP entry in 2004.

Apparently, Loen Camier was already looking to ride an Aprilia in World Superbike. At least, according to Aprilia's Daniele Tosatti, he had been in talks with them since the beginning of the racing season. It seems that his trip with the team to Magny Cours is a test...for next year.

The Yamaha YZF-R1 Dominates European Racing

Once Leon Camier took the British Superbike Championship on the Airwaves YZF-R1, we could see the fast nature of the Yamaha mount. If you have been watching World Superbike, you would see Ben Spies running at the front of the series on his R1. Even in British Supersport, a R1 sits second in the standings...And, in the Dutch Superbike Championship, a 2008 model of the bike took the top position! This does not even address the success of the Japanese manufacturer in the US AMA series...
