Thursday Evening Moto News - Leslie Porterfield in Daytona & Mist Suzuki Needs Sponsors!

Leslie Porterfield, the world's fastest woman, will be interviewing both Chris Carr and Dennis Manning - rider and owner of the world's fastest motorcycle - at the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Breakfast during Daytona Bike Week in Florida. Porterfield is perhaps the best person to take on this position as she knows speed very well and she has a great way with words. Tickets are still available to the 5 March 2010 event, so grab them while you can!

A small Isle of Dogs team - Mist Suzuki - is facing a terrible issue as their main sponsor is 'reviewing' the contract. That means no money for the British Superbike Championship season opener at Brands Hatch in early April, and he may not see any at all. The team is short due to the economy and needs help. If you know someone local to them or in the UK looking to sponsor - at least a little - a BSB team - which gets a huge audience - then give them a quick call!

The AMA has announced that Motorcycle Hall of Famer Malcolm Smith will serve as Grand Marshal at this coming 9 - 11 July's 2010 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days in Lexington, Ohio. That's a lot to take in. Yes, Malcolm Smith was chosen since Husqvarna - finally returning to full sales support in the US - is the event's Marque of the Year for 2010. All worth a visit...and a demo ride on a Husky!

Very Rare Taglioni-Designed Ceccato 75 Wins AMA Concours

It was held in Las Vegas in conjunction with the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, and this one-of-a-kind (now) Ceccato 75 race machine designed by Taglioni while studying for his master's thesis. Talk about bringing out the big guns - this thing would win almost any concours, anywhere. Look at the other entries and I think you will agree that there should have been more than one winner here.

Chuck Palmgren - AMA Hallf of Fame Inductee Bio

Palmgren will be inducted over this coming weekend to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. This keeps coming up when I look around for news, so I am giving in and posting it here as well. The man is incredible - no doubt about that - but I was hoping to pick up a few more bios before announcing it here. Take the link and learn something of motorcycle history.

Fox Racing Supports AMA Hall of Fame Induction and Banquet

There is actually more to this than just what is in the title - Fox Racing will be sponsoring the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Concours d'Elegance and the Championship Banquet. All of this will go down in Las Vegas from 4 - 5 December 2009 at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. Very nice to see even more industry support for the sport we love.

KTM North America to Sponsor AMA Racing Championship Banquet & Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Well, the title just about says it all. However, it is rather nice of KTM North America to step up like this and sponsor this prestigious event in the motorcycling world; well, at least in the US. Basically, KTM wants to demonstrate their dedication to motorcycle racing - I would say they have already succeeded. This is so much more important due to the current economic situation.

AMA Member Wins Hall of Fame Grand Prize - Two Triumph Bonnevilles

Phil Kreuter of Goshen, Indiana, was one very lucky man. He won the annual AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum' fundraising raffle. For the top prize, he won two Triumph Bonnevilles - one 2009 model and a classic 1959 model as well. And, to add to the luck here, Kreuter only purchased the 5-for-$20 package. I hope you will join me in wishing this some very good times on his new bikes!

2009 AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Concours d’Elegance in Las Vegas

The American Motorcyclist Association Motorcycle Hall of Fame has announced details about their 8th Annual Concours d’Elegance to be held at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. First of all, it will be held on Saturday 5 December 2009 - perhaps a bit important. Only 75 motorcycles will be invited to attend. They will be judged in 11 categories and one will win the Jim Davis Best in Show Award. It does seem that the AMA has taken a shine to Vegas. But, it is a lot cheaper to get to (for most of us) and there are plenty of nearby hotel rooms...and some entertainment.

Rare Historic Motorcycle Poster Located in New York

In 1940, a group of women riders held a motorcycle show at the Waterloo Fairgrounds in New York state. Doug Holland, who takes apart old barns to convert the wood into wood flooring, found the poster while dismantling doing his work in Seneca Falls. It may even help the AMA realize that it needs to induct a few more members!

David Hough, Motorcycle Writer / Safety Advocate Inducted to AMA Hall of Fame

I could not find a decently long write-up on Mr. Hough, so this will have to do:

http://tinyurl.com/lszqvy

If you are an avid motorcycle book or magazine reader, you will know his name. If not, you can always Google him and you will find a long list of results. David Hough is a well-known motorcycle safety and proficient riding guru who will finally be honored by the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame 0n December 5, 2009 in Las Vegas. Pick up some of his books and you will not be disappointed.
