Rare MV Agustas at Auction - The Gary Kohs Collection
See, this is absolute proof that I was never meant to be a collector of fine motorcycles. The past few years have seen some of the nicest, rarest, and most beautiful MV Agusta machines roll across the auction block...and this writer is worth more dead than alive! These bikes will only go up in value in the next decade as the super-wealthy start collecting vintage motorcycles (and it is becoming a fad among the Wall Street set). Thus, those lovely 'fire engines' and fire-breathing beasts will forever remain a dream, even to ride as they will probably be put behind glass and displayed or locked away in a massive garage outside Manhattan.
Anyway, if you happen to have some spare coin, head to Monterey in August:
Oberdan Bezzi "Builds" A Beautiful MV
If only someone would actually put this into real steel - or some alloy - it would be mine. OK, that is not strictly true; I could not afford it - and it WILL become reality very soon, according to one source (linked below). It could be mimicked by a cleaver builder with a salvaged Brutale or F4...and, it would not be extraordinarily expensive, either. The Oberdan Bezzi MV Agusta 750S Classic Concept will debut at EICMA Milan in only a few weeks' time. Isn't she a beauty!

Oberdan Bezzi Brings Us the MMB1 - Bimota's First Moto Morini - And MMB2!
Unfortunately, it is just a drawing presently. And, of course, many malign the Moto Morini powerplant. However, this design concept just simply works. It is beautiful, Italian and looks like it would be one to add to my garage - if I can ever afford another motorcycle. Oberdan Bezzi is a talented idea man who has brought us some of the most interesting designs I have seen. It is called the MMB1 - meaning Moto Morini Bimota, first model. Just a few days later...we get yet another design from the mind of Oberdan Bezzi! This one is a cross between a streetfighter and supermoto concept with a more upright ergonomic setup and a surprisingly edgy look. It sure would be nice to know that Bimota would at least consider something like these machines. I am certain they would sell well - at least for the boutique perfectionism of this fine Italian marque. It would be nice to get one or both of these lovely works of mechanical art! Here we ave another impression on the new Ducati Multistrada 1200. The odd aura around this machine seems to be holding back the big mag reviews. Must be waiting to sell some serious ads; that makes sense. This is a first impression of the Multistrada S model - the one I want - and it is a bit short. This comes right out of Japan and Italy; the new machine of the moment from the brilliant folks at Motocorse have produced a rather severely beautiful and light Ducati Monster 1100. It is tricked out with all of their best kit and is loaded with titanium (obviously) and carbon fibre - saving nearly 29 lb. of weight. The all-new for 2010 MV Agusta F4 may look very similar to its predecessor, but there are several major changes which add up to make this liter-class Italian exotica something more than just a slight upgrade. The handling is better, engine performance more linear and overall control has been tamed somewhat. Still, it is from MV Agusta, so it will always be the beast it is at heart - and for which we all love the F4!

Speaking of historic motorcycles, Freddie Spencer is selling two of his championship winning race bikes through dealers RMD Motors. It seems that there are some financial issues and he needs the money more than the historic motorcycles. Dainese recently opened an exhibit at the Cite des Sciences in Paris, France, which shows the history of body protection. It is full of leathers and other protective gear from many of history's greatest motorcycle racers. It is not only about Dainese as they also have many displays focused on road safety. The exhibit is called 'A Toute Epreuve: New Technologies for Protecting the Human Form' and runs until 8 August 2010. Get yourself to Paris tout de suite!

Wednesday Morning Moto News - MV Agusta Buyer? & Gatornationals NHRA
MV Agusta seems to have a few suitors for its long-awaited sale from Harley-Davidson - at least long-awaited by me. BMW is one of the companies interested in the purchase - however, there has been little comment from the German company since the rumor spread. Next, there is a consortium of Italian businesspeople who may also be interested in the purchase. Whoever it is, I truly hope they do not force MV to compromise its designs in the name of short-term profits!

Tuesday Morning Moto News - Rider Dies on Phillip Island & MV Agusta F4 Review
A 72-year-old rider who was taking advantage of a program which allows spectators to take to the Phillip Island track after the races are finished. He had rented a Suzuki GSX-R600 to ride the circuit. While riding into the second turn he lost control and crashed - the rider behind him did not have time to stop and hit him. He was declared dead at the scene.

Early reports on the riding manners of the new 2010 MV Agusta F4-1000R are quite good. Many had complained about previous models being rather unforgiving on the road, but I have yet to seen that proven. However, the new F4 has the road-going behavior of a Honda now - it is smooth, easy to control, and takes to the track as if it were born there - and it was. For your own opinion, go take a demo ride or just take the link and read the review.

Tuesday Afternoon Moto News - NZ Battle of the Streets & Sturgis Eternal Combustion
It is actually known as the Yamaha Battle of the Streets and it will take place in Paeroa, New Zealand. Several well-known local racers will be in the competition along with many unknowns from the club racing and track day ranks. It is run on a real roads course through the town. At the Sturgis rally this year a photographer well-known in the custom world, Michael Lichter, will be putting on a show at the Buffalo Chip Campground; he calls it the Eternal Combustion 30 in the Wind. There will be 30 custom bikes on display from the nations best builders, and a huge selection of Lichter's photographs will also be displayed. To be fair, there are some great bikes in this group - not as many repli-choppers as you might expect - so take the time to stop by and enjoy the views...

More Afternoon Moto News - Brutale 1090RR Review & New Norton Races!
The new MV Agusta Brutale 1090RR is something to behold - lovely, powerful, and very well-made. Well, how does it perform on the street? Well, let's just say that the Brutale sets the standard in the naked bike segment as it always has. The author here finds it slightly less perfect than the Streetfighter, but at least the Brutale has well-sorted suspension right off the production line and it is much more reliable than the Ducati...and that is borne out through the large number of warranty work on the new Streetfighter. Go MV and you will never regret it!

Brutale on Tour will have as leaders the brand new Brutale 990R and 1090RR motorcycles which will be tried on road under the guidance of skilled foreriders. In this way all motorcyclists will be able to be tuned with the power of the new 4-cylinder MV engines from 998cc to 1078cc, and “have a proof” of the exceptional gifts of the incredible chassis and the new traction control adjustable on 8 levels.
Madrid, Rome, Florence, Nürburgring, Paris are only some of the cities that will be visited by Brutale on Tour and on July 11th it will end at Cascina Costa on the MV Agusta Revival, “holy” event for all motorcycle enthusiasts who have built the story of motorcycling… and who will carry on building it.
Instead F4 on Tour will offer the chance to all enthusiasts of trying the exceptional F4 on circuit. Dorna's top man, Carmelo Ezpeleta has again made the news cycle. This time it is all about Valentino Rossi and his time with Ferrari. Ezpeleta states that the Formula 1 interest in Rossi can only be good for the MotoGP Championship. He has a point as it will most certainly bring a few more fans into the series, not to mention some journalistic attention as well...

The head of the circuit-owning British Racing Drivers' Club has said that the new track layout at Silverstone is boring for Formula 1. Silverstone re-designed some of the track for the arrival of MotoGP this year, and some are quite happy with it. However, the consensus in the F1 world is saying a bit different...

Kenya's 2010 Africa Concours d'Elegance Announced
The AccessKenya Group, a successful local public IT company, has announced that it will again support the 2010 Africa Concours d'Elegance. It will be held on 26 September 2010 at the Nairobi Racecourse in - where else? - Nairboi, Kenya. The Alfa Romeo Owners Club will be hosting the 40th Concours d' Elegance and will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the auto manufacturer (founded 1910). Vehicles will be entered into one of 12 automobile or eight motorcycle classes. The event is heavily attended, so make your plans early and get your accommodations arranged. There are some better photos somewhere on the 'Net, but the linked piece is solid and explains everything. Troy Lee Designs will be doing the livery for the 2010 Rizla Suzuki MotoGP team's bikes. Given how busy he has been helping to raised funds for the Haiti Earthquake (have you given yet?), it is a wonder where he finds the time. It is sure to be a decent design...and we get to see it at Qatar in March. Should be good!

Wednesday Afternoon Moto News - Design, Ninja 650R & Chad Reed
The man responsible for the jaguar-themed motorcycle custom - you remember it, it's the one with a huge faux jaguar body as the frame - Barend Massow Hemmes, is at it again. His next project, which is part of the same concept, is a bull. A very red bull acts as the frame and the forks with a seat tacked on to the bull's ass. Take a look. At least he is thinking creatively!

Now, we also finally get our hands on a riding impression of the 2010 Kawasaki Ninja 650R. The bike is billed as an entry-level machine for beginning riders, but it is also a light and quick canyon bomber for experienced riders. There are many changes to this machine, and all of them work towards making it an even better motorcycle. For the full review and some great photos, take the link.

We also hear that AMA Supercross star, and Monster Kawasaki's lead rider, Chad Reed has broken his hand. He will be out of the series for up to six weeks! The incident happened at the Phoenix round when James Stewart and him collided in the race. This is not good news for the sport as he is one of, if not the, best racers out there now.

Thursday Morning Moto News - MV Agusta + Silent Snow Bike
Well, it is a bit early out here - at least for posting - but there is always news...
The article linked here is about a motorcycle enthusiast - with a bent towards Italian machines - who decided to let his imagination produce the forthcoming 675c.c. triple from MV Agusta. Now, MV is currently testing this machine (in secret), but they have produced no official vision of the bike. So, our moto enthusiast did that for us and he actually put together a sweet looking design!

From the Swiss company Quantya, electric motor masters, comes an electric snow motorcycle. Yes, you read that right. They have taken the frame of a motorcycle, placed in it an electric motor as one would making a street bike, but then they replaced the front end with skis and the rear with a tread.
