2010 Arlen Ness Victory Vision & More Salt Addiction - Timing
The Victory Motorcycle company produces machines which challenge the cruiser market like no other company. They are made in the US and they have a reputation for reliability - even better than competitor and arch-rival Harley-Davidson, whose bikes have less performance when compared like-to-like with the Victory machines. Arlen Ness, customizer extraordinaire, has been working with Victory for some six or seven years and has produced some of the more amazing offerings from the company in terms of style and appearance. The Vision he penned is at the other end of the link...

Rocky Robinson's column, 'Salt Addiction', is back this month and this time he is talking about timing. The Bonneville Salt Flats is where everyone goes to test themselves against the clock to see how fast they can go. Well, what about that clock? Timing is a very important and exacting science which must be applied perfectly to keep the record(s) straight. How is it done....well, take the link and see...

Wednesday Evening Moto News - Scott Guthrie & Triumph's New Models
Another write-up from Rocky Robinson and his 'Salt Addiction' column. In this piece, Scott Guthrie is covered. a true renaissance man who also loves to capture land speed records. He has personally broken over 240 of them, and his team has broken over 380! You really need to read this one...

Well, I will not be laying them all out here for you - there are too many details and too many great photos after the link below. But, I will say that Triumph will soon sell its 100,000 motorcycle since returning to North America some 15 years ago. Their market share is growing in the US and there is good reason for that - they make great motorcycles. Hop on over and see what they have waiting for you...

MORE Morning Moto News - Dennis Manning & Husqvarna TXC250
Apparently, the author of the linked piece managed to grab an interview with Dennis Manning at the Easyriders Show in California. For over 30 years, Manning has worked at achieving record speeds on the Bonneville Salt Flats - he has won and he has lost. But, him and his rider, Chris Carr, now hold the absolute top speed record in a streamlined motorcycle. For all of your fun and knowledge, please take the link.

The Husqvarna TXC250 is billed as a “hybrid motocross/enduro model" - equally at home on a MX track or in the desert expanses or cross-country areas around you. It is light and powerful, well-balanced and full of new tech. It is an incredibly impressive mount and is worth considering if you are looking for a Lites-type bike which you can also ride off the MX track.

Night Moto News - Gabriel Uttley, 600 450cc, THOR & FIM Speedway GP
It's the story of Gabriel Uttley, from the U.K., and his dream of exceeding 400 mph in a motorcycle streamliner, and it is written by a now veteran of the Salt Flats, one Rocky Robinson. It's a good read about this team, and one to pay attention to this year. They could do it, but I think they will need a bit more practice - at least from what I have heard about racing those machines. Check it out, you'll likely like it.

This one is a bit odd, but it is working in the series. In the New Zealand Superbike Championship there is a class for 450c.c. machines of all cylinder configurations. It is called Formula Three. Marty Wood has set up a Yamaha YZF-R6 to run on only three cylinders, thus making it a 450c.c. and legal. He has been scoring rather well with this...check it out.

Interview with Leslie Porterfield - World's Fastest Woman
Porterfield can be classified as the world's fastest woman due to her numerous world speed records, and simply because she is very good at going fast. She also picked up the AMA's Female Rider of the Year award - and she is the only (believe it or not) woman to be a member of the Bonneville 200 mph club. The link will take you to an interview from a Limey traveling through Dallas, Texas.

There are many of these coming out in the press lately; it takes time for teams to return home and for journalists to get their stories printed. The group from Regina, Saskatchewan, consists of Al Elmer, Paul Godfrey, Peter Hintz and Jae Norelius. They took their 1972 Kawasaki 350 to 94.433 mph!

Tom Liberatore Takes 1973 Moto Guzzi V7 to 138.491 MPH
Liberatore of Talmage, Califronia, caught the Bonneville speed bug in 2003 when he first visited the Bonneville Salt Flats with some friends. Since 2004, he has been taking his Guzzi V7 to run the Flats since 2004. He managed to set two records that year and another one in 2005, but he also blew up his share of engines along the way. This year, he went 138.491 mph on his Italian push-rod V-twin and set another record!

Now, I cannot seem to pull the exact average speed - as it has not been reported yet - it seems that the new speed will be set at around 366 mph! 2010 Mission Motors Electric Mission One Breaks Speed Record
This story has been popping up all day long and I like it. The Mission Motors team, who finished the 2009 TTXGP in fourth place due to a drivetrain failure (they had to use a lower-spec version for the actual race), managed to take their US$68,000 Mission One electric motorcycle to 150.059 MPH on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah! Quite a start, eh?
