Metzeler Racetec Interact Tires Prove Themselves & Suzuki Canada's New Deal

The new for 2010 Metzeler Racetec Interact tires already have a claim to fame - and the BSB Superstock season has yet to even begin! Steve Plater was riding his HM Plant Honda Fireblade (CBR1000RR) at Brands Hatch recently testing the tires in race conditions. During that test, he managed to break the short-circuit record at the track by more than a full half-second - 47.2 seconds versus the old record of 47.83. Very impressive indeed!

Well, it is not as useful as the New Deal once pushed ahead in this nation, but it is important to Canadian racers. Suzuki Canada has announced that they will have a reduced role in the Canadian Superbike Championship series in 2010. They will be paying a small homologation fee to keep their two popular GSX-R models in the series, but they will be providing no factory support to the teams who use them. British Superbike team MIST Suzuki may not be ready for the 2010 season opener at Brands Hatch, 3 - 5 April. The bikes they will be running are doing quite well, and the team is as ready as they can be to tackle the championship. However, they are having serious sponsorship issues - as many are - and may not have everything they need in order to start the season, including the all important rider...check it out:

New news is coming to us about Steve Plater and his run at the North West 200 road race. Plater will contest five different races at the event; two Supersport, two Superbike and, now, one Superstock race as well. He will be riding for the HM Plant Honda team for the event.

The "Day of the Champion" event held this past weekend at South Africa's Zwartkop Raceway turned into a perfect race day for all who attended. The new top-model Ducati Hypermotard has the designation EVO SP, while the standard model is now Hypermotard EVO. That is supposed to represent how much the new model has changed - evolved - with customer feedback and new techniques. They are very different from their forbear in many ways. It is a detailed review and one which you should read if you are planning on investing in one of these machines.

Rossi has said that he will not be participating in the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours. He was going to ride with Jean Alesi in a Ferrari 430 GT2, but has decided not to join the event. He wants nothing to distract him from MotoGP in 2010.

Marco Melandri is looking for some stability in his racing career. Given his recent contract issues with Ducati and Kawasaki (who prematurely withdrew from MotoGP in 2009), his new spot at Gresini Honda is something he hopes will endure. Plater won the British Supersport title in 2009 and now will move on to Superstock in 2010 for a new challenge. His teammate on the HM Plant Honda team will be well-known TT ace John McGuinness, so it will at least be an interesting team to watch. Two great riders on a great race bike - why would you miss it?

Fuchs-Silkolene Renews Title Sponsorship for British Supersport Championship

For the third consecutive year, Fuchs-Silkolene will be title sponsor for the British Supersport Championship. The parties at both companies are very happy with the new agreement - and it certainly helps in these terrible economic times. At the Isle of Man, we will once again see John McGuinness - who is now second on the all time win list - and there could be as many as 10 former winners lining up to compete against him!
