Boulder Motor Sports and Shane Turpin to Race at MMP World Superbike

Miller Motorsports Park hosts a round of the FIM World Superbike Championship during 26 to 28 May 2012, and many of the world's best motorcycle racers will melt rubber in pursuit of winning - or at least finishing in the points - on the Utah circuit. Alongside them will be a name well-known to US fans of AMA Pro Racing, riding a Boulder Motor Sports Ducati 1198R will be Shane Turpin. You may also know him from the Yamaha Champions School, where he instructs, or from his many Championships accumulated from his time in the MRA series in Colorado, or for him riding for Segway / MotoCzysz in the TTXGP (see photo above). Please get in touch with him and wish him well! He could use a few sponsors...

Honda Australia has announced that they are restructuring and will cease operations of the Honda Riders Club of Australia effective immediately. As with the American version, which is still barely active, its activities spanned the entire range of sports associated with Honda motorsports products. All of that work will now be done in-house at the Australian HQ.

MCN (UK) has produced a very cool read about scams, cheats and hoaxes in the motorcycle world. Some are quite amazingly interesting and others are just plain laugh out loud funny. The one about the FP1, though, I would like to research more just to find the truth - not to hurt anyone, but to finally know what actually did happen. OK, so take the link and read them, you will enjoy it!

From Motorcyclist Magazine: The Ecosse Heretic

You may or may not know of this outfit, but Ecosse has been around for some time now. At first, they only allowed the very privileged access to even look at their motorcycles. Well, now they are trying to sell them to the public. The Ecosse Heretic is made in Colorado and, yes, it is another 45-degree V-twin shoved into a tight frame and built for speed (thus, yet another Harley-clone race bike), but this one actually has some engineering cred which separates it from the rest. Every detail on the bike is done with the best that technology has to offer - and it shows in the US$80,000 price tag. Still not for me, but I would not mind throwing a leg over to see how well it actually rides...

Colorado Mountain Towns Begin Motorcycle Safety Campaign

I know it sounds like they are going to just put out some flyers or give a few seminars, but it appears to be more likely a new program to cut down on impaired-riding. So, that usually means checkpoints which only ask motorcyclists to pull over; or, they will just put their focus on the riders. It is probably coming from a good place in these people's hearts, but they would do much better to educate car and truck (and, in Colorado, the bus drivers) drivers about motorcyclists as that was always the problem I encountered on the mountain roads of Colorado. If you are lucky enough to still live there, be careful when you ride in this region...they may just think your tire-warming swerve looks like you have had one too many...

For Auction: Von Dutch Custom Motorcycle

This bike is being sold from a Colorado bank which failed due to the economic crisis, so I am not sure for whom or what this motorcycle was built. It is a very detailed and feature-rich custom chopper. If you are interested, it is going for a steal now (just like the bankers did to us) - US$9000!

Colorado Gets New Electric Motorcycle Manufacturer

What a sweet time it is to be in this industry! So much is happening so fast in the motorcycling world that it can be tough to keep up with all of the news; I try. This is some very interesting news, though, beyond just that. This company, Blindspot Cycles, will make an electric motorcycle to order for you - most of it from parts out of a junkyard! Just take the link and see it for yourself...or, look at the photo at left and get an idea...

Riding the BMW K1300GT in Colorado

Well, it was in Colorado where the author test rode the BMW, though the state has little to do with it. The K1300GT is a touring bike like very few...it handles well, has serious power, and can carry almost anything you need for a 'grand tour'.

This follows an earlier post from a colleague of mine who also reviewed the K1300GT.

From Another Blog - Aprilia Wins 87th Pike's Peak Hill Climb
