Monday Morning Moto News - Triumph and Althea Ducati

Triumph has announced their European competition plans. They will contest the World Supersport Championship with Gary McCoy and Chaz Davies. The other main announcement was the Triumph ParkinGO European Series, which is an all-European race series which does have full World Championship status. The release is a bit confusing, but I am sure you can figure it out. Though, it is not 'world' in the truest sense of the word.

Over the weekend, the Althea Ducati team was officially introduced to the world's press. They will contest the World Superbike Championship in 2010 with riders Carlos Checa and Shane Byrne. They will be off to practice at Portimao in a few days and look to be situated for success. Take a look...

Riding Impression: 2010 Triumph Street Triple R

This is arguably the bike which Triumph should have released when they put out the original Street Triple. They stripped some of the best bits from the Daytona 675 when they created that naked - most missed was the suspension, something you really want when you have a canyon carver like this bike. Jason O’Halloran to Join TAG Triumph British Supersport Effort

In 2010 O’Halloran will be fighting for the championship of the British Supersport on a Triumph. The TAG Triumph team have now hired all Australians to ride their race bikes in the series. O'Halloran will join his fellow countryman Paul Young on the Triumph Daytona 675.

This is a Special Edition of the Triumph Daytona 675 - and it is gorgeous! It is identical to the 2009 Daytona 675 except for the paint - the Pearl White has been put on all fairings and the tank; the frame and swingarm are painted in a Blue Sparkle. The Triumph Triple Challenge - A Great Opportunity

The TTC will be run in conjunction with the BSB Championship; five of the nine rounds of the TTC will be held at BSB events, thus giving national exposure to racers competing in this one-marque series. All bikes participating in the racing series will be Triumph Daytona 675 with all the same modifications. Racers will only be allowed to change the suspension settings before each race. Sounds like close and competitive racing to me!

Riding Impression: 2010 Triumph Daytona 675

If you follow triumph, then you will know that the 675 is one of the best middle-weight sportbikes available on today's market. Triumph did a very good job on this motorcycle and it really shows. So, what about the 2010 model. Well, it is pretty much more of the same quality, fun and performance that we are used to from the English company. The author of the linked piece describes it pretty well as, "the two-wheeled version of the Jaguar XKR." Interesting read, but no photos...

Racer Dean Stimpson Receives New Triumph for His Efforts in the MZ250 Class

Stimpson has been racing in the MZ250 series for four years now; last year he narrowly missed the title and this year he has taken the championship with only one round remaining. He was awarded the Triumph Daytona 675 for this win and so that he may compete in the Triumph Triple Challenge which will run in conjunction with the British Superbike series in 2010. Most of this is thanks from Tony Scott of T3 Racing, who is also responsible for the Triumph series being part of BSB.

BSB Supersport Results from Oulton Park Round

Well, unfortunately, James Westmoreland did not get the break he needed to take second place. He finished today's British Supersport Championship race in second place, but Billy McConnell finished in 19th (!) place and took second place in the championship series. Congratulations to McConnell! And, congratulations on the Triumph-mounted Westmoreland for finishing the year in third!

Late on this One - Marco Simoncelli's World Superbike Qualifying

He managed to qualify well and made it to Superpole, so he started in eighth. As for his races, I only know that he did score a third place position in race 2 ahead of Max Biaggi! That is fantastic for a rider who only has a few hours experience on the Aprilia RSV-4.

Chaz Davies is also in this article; he qualified 11th for the World Supersport Imola race.

Triumph's Daytona 675 Wins AMA Moto-GT1 Class

Crozier Motorsports has taken two wins and three second places on their way to taking the Triumph-owned Daytona 675 to the championship in the AMA Moto-GT1 class. They had a second place finish to the 2007 season and then only ran select races in 2008. But, this year they managed to take it all the way to the top!

Chaz Davies to Race With Triumph in World Supersport for Final Rounds of 2009

It's all there in the title; Chaz Davies - after finishing the AMA Daytona SportBike competition in the US in 9th place overall - is moving on to World Supersport for the ParkinGO BE1 Racing team. He will be riding their Daytona 675 in the final three race weekends of the 2009 season.
