Harley-Davidson: The 'American' Motorcycle Company Becoming Even Less American

Given the sad sales figures of H-D in the last financial quarter, they have taken some measures which any company would take to save their company - they closed Buell and will sell MV Agusta. But, it may get even worse for them. For the longest time I have seen Harley riders proclaim their motorcycle's American-ness. This was even though the suspension was made in Japan (and owned by Honda), the lights also made in Japan, some electronics made in Europe, some - again - from Japan, and even designers from outside of the US helped them create their classic motorcycles. The truth is that not even Japanese motorcycles are all Japanese - it is a myth that the headquarters of a company determines where their products are built. And, now it seems that H-D will have to outsource even more work overseas...and close their York, PA plant - that would be very sad indeed - so many workers laid-off...Let's hope it gets better for them whether you like their motorcycles or not!
