More Afternoon Moto News - Daytona American Superbike Race Results

In the first race of the 2010 AMA Pro Racing American Superbike Championship, a certain rider with a three-year winless drought came through to secure the win - National Guard Suzuki's Jake Zemke. He won in a very close finish; Rockstar/Makita Suzuki's Tommy Hayden came in second (only .238 of a second from first place) and Foremost Ducati's Larry Pegram held on for third (just .259 of a second behind Zemke). With the upcoming AMA Pro Racing season getting even nearer, Larry Pegram has come up with another way to gain some sponsorship money has created the Pegram Racing Club. With support from Foremost Insurance and Ducati NA, Pegram has been able to build a successful team around the Ducati 1098R - he won 3 races last year and finished fourth overall. MORE Afternoon Moto News - Sarolea Motorcycle & Pit Pass Radio

A very rare Sarolea Motorcycle, a 1942 model, was featured on the History Channel show "Pawn Stars". The pawn broker in the show purchased the vintage Belgian motorcycle for US$4500 and then sold it at auction for US$7000. It is probably worth a bit more as there are rumored to only be 5 of them in the entire USA. These bikes are in high demand by collectors, so expect to hear plenty more of this story in the coming weeks.

As if we did not expect this news, Larry Pegram will continue to ride a Ducati in the AMA Pro Racing American Superbike series. The good news that we just now learned is that Foremost Insurance has stepped up their support for the relative privateer (Ducati's factory is not supporting him, but Ducati North America is bending over backwards to assist his effort). With his finishes last season - fourth overall - he will have a real chance of taking the title in a field of what are essentially other privateers.

More Morning Moto News - AMA Pro Racing Test & Marco Lucchinelli

Over at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, some of the 2010 AMA Pro Racing teams were out practicing and working on setup. Well, Aaron Yates ripped off a screaming run at the track and left the test as the fastest of those running American Superbike machines. He and his team are all running last year's models, but they are not too upset by that as they have over a year worth of extra data to work with. Even Larry Pegram was at the event doing some testing - but all riders complained of being off of their mounts for far too long this winter...

Marco Lucchinelli has had a colorful life, to say the least. Lucchinelli was a GP Champion in 1981 and went on to run the Ducati World Superbike team in the late 80's and early 90's. He also was a serious cocaine addict and lived a very party-filled life, with women and alcohol added to that mix. His life story is rather intriguing and it is well worth your time to take the link and have a read about the man and his life...

Friday Afternoon Moto News of a New Sort

Well, we already knew this as well, but it a new study has confirmed it further - riding a motorcycle is good for your brain in many ways. Not only does it help to improve hand-to-eye coordination and bring serious levels of dopamine and other chemicals derived from the excitement of riding, it also builds new brain pathways and improves knowledge absorption. Just have a read about the study and you will know why you are smarter than your cage-bound friends and family.

American Honda has also commemorated Mike Traynor by planting a tree - as a living memorial - and placing a plaque honoring him on the campus of their Torrance, California, HQ. Traynor worked very closely with the people in that office while managing his Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's Ride for Kids.

Larry Pegram Will Race in 2010 With or Without Ducati's Support

Ducati North America is still talking with Pegram about the 2010 season, but nothing has been confirmed yet. The interesting aspect of this is that he has most all of the sponsors he had in 2009, but Ducati will still not guarantee him support. No matter what, though, Pegram will line up on the starting grid at Daytona in March 2010.

Tight Qualifying in New Jersey Leaves Pegram on Second Row

Larry Pegram of the Foremost Ducati team will start tomorrow's race from the second row. Oddly enough, his time was mere .3 seconds behind second position. That goes to show how close racing in that series can be...not bad.

Press Release from Aaron King's Aprilia Team - Indy Mile

Aaron King did rather well on his American Agip/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Aprilia at the Indy Mile, held last weekend. This was only his second national race. Larry Pegram also performed well, but his Ducati did not, unfortunately.

Pegram - at 35 Years Young - Swept AMA Superbike at Heartland Park

Had to see it this weekend and I am glad I did! Larry Pegram and his Foremost Insurance/Pegram Racing Ducati team won both AMA Pro Racing Superbike events at Kansas' Heartland Park Topeka - a new addition to the AMA series' track list.

One of my favorite 'up and coming' racers, Martin Cardenas, managed to win a very hard-fought AMA Pro Racing Daytona SportBike race; however, that was the second race of the event. Danny Eslick pulled off the first win of the event with his Buell 1125R. (Buell, you see, is allowed to run 1125 c.c. machines to beat out the Japanese 600 c.c. competition - V-Twin versus Inline-4; funny how the AMA/Daytona people are also using Buells as pace bikes this year, coincidence?)
