South Dakota Riders Ignore Motorcycle Safety and Pay With Their Lives

This news comes from a South Dakota newspaper and it is very disheartening to hear. When will these riders learn that they need to take responsibility for their own safety? Probably once they end up in a vegetative state after their next accident - problem is, that will be too late! It really is no wonder that cagers support helmet laws - some riders just have no common sense.

HISSES to news that the first-ever South Dakota survey on motorcycle helmet use showed such poor results. Only about a third of motorcycle riders in the state use helmets, according to the survey conducted by the state Office of Highway Safety. We aren’t really surprised by such news, but we’ll hope the number rises in future surveys. Yes, we understand the idea of personal freedoms and such, but helmets can truly help reduce injury in motorcycle mishaps. For the record, state law requires riders 17 and younger to wear a helmet when on a motorcycle.
