In a weird way, this is his second time to leave behind an 'AMA' organization, but this time there may actually not be a lawsuit. Edmondson stated that his health is in need of attention so it would be better if he left. This means that one of the hardest workers on the Daytona Motorsports Group purchase of AMA Pro Racing (and other series) from the American Motorcyclist Association has stepped away from the work which remains. Maybe this will mean that the series will finally adopt racing rules which are used worldwide instead of the weird setup that exists now. Who knows...but this is certainly worth paying attention to if you are a race fan.
http://tinyurl.com/y9o6b43
There are some who feel that Edmondson is only pulling back from the AMA Pro Racing organizer to take up a role as a puppeteer - and he may very well do that as it is common in the racing world. Depending on how you feel, this opinion piece is a nice insight on the departure of Edmondson from someone who once knew the guy.

Yep, even more news on this 31 December 2009...
English Triumph dealer Jack Lilley has now finished his usual custom line-up for us. With this one, he took a 2009 Triumph Bonneville SE and Scrambler and painted and upgraded them for sale to the public. The paint on these machines is worth the extra £, which is not much anyway. He has also changed items like the exhaust, tires, seats, and much more. Really, you should take the link.
http://tinyurl.com/yaplv3f
And, there is another custom (featured before on this blog) which Roland Sands will be donating for the PBTF as he does every year. This one is a CBR1000RR (Fireblade in the rest of the world) Streetfighter which he has chopped, cut and painted to look just spectacular. It even maintains its huge power characteristics. You will see it up for auction in 2010.
http://tinyurl.com/yby3vl6
There is also news from the TT organizers, the Auto Cycle Union, and the Isle of Man Department of Tourism about the Isle of Man in 2010. There are plenty of events lined up - enough to even make you miss the races - for 2010, so make sure to make your arrangements yesterday - well, as soon as you are able!
http://tinyurl.com/ydm4o3n
And, to finish off this post we have a look into the Honda Collection Hall at the Twin Ring Motegi in Japan. The author was fortunate enough to get a chance to see it while in Japan for the press introduction of the 2010 VFR1200F. It's worth a visit and, if you cannot get there anytime soon, a read.

Even More New Year's Eve News from the Moto World, Part 2
Didn't expect this news to make it, but here it is...
There is a sweet bike which was found on eBay by the bloggers at Motorcycle Classics - a 1984 Kawasaki GPz550. Now, this bike may not be very interesting to you, but to me it was a very significant motorcycle. They were everywhere when I was growing up back then and they were certainly hard to miss when on the street. This model has over 37,000 miles on it, but it was very well taken care of...take a look!
http://tinyurl.com/y9pfynx
Next, we have a trip to the Bonneville Vintage GP at Miller Motorsports Park in Utah. This is just an article describing what happened at the 4th annual event in 2009 - and noting why you should not miss the 2010 running. Anyone who enjoys classic or historical motorcycles and motorcycle racing will enjoy this event like none before it!
http://tinyurl.com/y8z7m6c
Well, we also have a concept motorcycle which borrows heavily from the Confederate models in its design. The RK Racer is - of course - based on a Buell 1200 engine (not sure which one they mean) and it has many sharp edges. See if you think it is any better than what the Louisiana manufacturer (Confederate) produces and take a long look.
http://tinyurl.com/yecbhtm
And, yet another list of concept and prototype motorcycles which the author of the post hopes will one day enter production for sale to us mortals. It is very similar to many others you may have read, but it has plenty of pictures for which you are bound to produce your own drool! Some of these are simply gorgeous!

New Year's Eve Moto Racing News from Around the World
We have some rather interesting race news coming to us here, so let's start.
First, over in Australia, we hear that FIM Speedway GP Champion Jason Crump and well-known homeboy Tai Woffinden will be participating in the Ben Fund Bonanza at the Rye House track. The event will take place on 14 March 2010 and should not be missed.
http://tinyurl.com/yehbdzx
Troy Corser - currently riding the BMW S1000RR in the World Superbike Championship - wants one more crown before he retires from the series. It's not as if this is impossible for the former champion; he has the speed and he may just have the bike for 2010. Stay tuned and pay attention...
http://tinyurl.com/ydy7e24
And, finally, we have a nice video and some photos of the Mavizen TTX02 electric motorcycle ahead of the new TTXGP race series for 2010. The team has been testing the new machine and has made some changes to make it run better in the new multi-lap format. Take a look at the machine before you see it on your TV next year.

Let's start with some very rare motorcycles for sale...
The blog Rare SportBikes for Sale has listed an incredible collection up for sale. From a classic MV Agusta 850SS to a Ducati 900SS and even a Cagiva Mito! Only some prices are mentioned, but you can expect the very rare ones to sell for somewhere in the 5 to 6 digits - if only I had a trust fund! Please take a look and you might find something you want and can afford...

We also have a quick note about yet another BMW recall. Almost all models of the F650GS and F800GS - at least those made between January 2008 and January 2009 (which includes model years 2008 - 2010) - are being recalled to fix a stalling problem. Have a look...

We are also reminded of the 19th Annual MidAmerica Vintage Motorcycle Auction in Las Vegas. It will be held from 7 - 9 January 2010 and will include several machines from all eras of motorcycle production, but with special focus on the 1970's and 1980's Japanese motorcycles. New Year's Eve Moto News - Rally Dakar Edition
That's right, the Rally Dakar is coming around very quickly now and we have some news about the event to go over in preparation.
First off, it seems that they have set up the course to be even more grueling than it was in previous years. 9000 Km of rough riding or driving across the South American nations of Chile and Argentina. It is some of the toughest off-road conditions in the world and it will be a real test of endurance, drive and determination for every participant. It all starts tomorrow, 1 January 2010, so get ready!

Paolo Ceci, Gerard Farres, Francisco Lopez and Alex Zanotti will all ride the Italian off-road machine starting tomorrow, 1 January 2010. Wednesday Morning Moto News from Around the Industry
We are back to Wednesday now - just a few more days left this year - and there is some news. One thing to keep in mind is that many people consider this the end of the first decade of the 21st century. They are wrong, unless the first decade is only 9 years long, as there was no year 0. That means that 2001 was the true beginning of the 21st century and the end of this decade will be midnight, 31 December 2010. It's simply absolute fact.
So, in that spirit, we have a list of the most important motorcycles of the first 9 years of the 21st century. On this list are bikes which you may or may not agree with, but the author believes that this is the list. I have to say that there are at least five bikes there which could easily be replaced with other models. Anyway, go and take a look and see if you agree.
http://tinyurl.com/yfe34v6
Now, a lawsuit has been settled which Harley-Davidson (a very litigious manufacturer) brought against family-owned Ridley Motorcycles. It seems that the lawyers up at H-D considered the 'Auto-Glide' transmission on the Ridley bikes to be too close to Harley's own 'Glide' series. So, now the David in our story has been slain by Goliath and Ridley will no longer use the name. Ridley will also no longer be making motorcycles - at least it appears that way since they have now filed for bankruptcy protection and have some serious debt (much of it coming from the fight with H-D; thank you so much H-D for ridding the world of another manufacturer, bastards!)
http://tinyurl.com/ykvrbb5
http://tinyurl.com/ye822uy
Also, Hiroshi Aoyama will be running the number 7 in MotoGP next season. He already lost his 4 due to Dovizioso already having it in the series, so he changed to 7 now that Vermeulen has left. He is doing it to honor Daijiro Kato, the Japanese MotoGP rider who died in a horrific crash at Suzuka in 2003.
http://tinyurl.com/yfqsh9a
And, it is now possible that Malaysia's Sepang Circuit could loose the MotoGP event at that track. The contract with the MotoGP management runs out next year and negotiations are under way now. This could also limit Malaysian racers' chances of getting into the series as full-time participants, so this has some far-reaching effects. I sure hope they get things nailed down before the 2010 Malaysian GP!

Tuesday Afternoon Moto News from Around the World
Not much going on this afternoon, so I only have one to place here.
A blog which I have linked to many times in the past few months, Luxist, had some of the authors of the site take a ride at the BMW Performace Center in Spartanburg - outside of Greenville, South Carolina. They had one hell of a time, as you might expect. They also provided us with a look into the school and the BMW machines they use to train their students. Tuesday Morning News from the Moto World - Part 2
Now, we head on over to the second part of this morning's news...
First story here is an interview with current Rally Dakar champion Marc Coma. He is getting ready for the 2010 running of the event and the author caught up with him to ask him how it is all going. The 450c.c. limit - and the restriction of bikes with larger displacements - is a major area of discussion. Have a good read...
http://tinyurl.com/ylx8p2h
Apparently, earlier reports of John Hopkins joining the MotoGP FB Corse team are not accurate. His manager has now related that Hopper is considering many options and he is working with FB Corse now, but has signed nothing.
http://tinyurl.com/yg9jbzx
We also hear from some of his companions (Cal Crutchlow and Troy Corser) in the World Superbike Championship for 2010, James Toseland will enjoy and prosper in the series. They state that the culture there is much better suited to Toseland, even if it has changed since the last time he raced there.
http://tinyurl.com/ygx3v4j
Marco Simoncelli and Hiroshi Aoyama have finished up with their testing at the Sepang track in Malaysia. The first days of testing were hampered by bad weather, but the remaining time was very useful for both riders as they prepare for their first year in MotoGP in 2010.

Tuesday Morning News from the Moto World - Part 1
There are several interesting stories running around the web today...
First, we have a rare sportbike - or, at least a well-done replica or two of some rare machines. There is a MV 500/4 and a Vincent Egli - both built by the owner down in Australia. Take a look - you may not be able to afford them, but they are sure nice to look over in detail...
http://tinyurl.com/y9fz94z
And, now we get something from Claudio Castiglioni, President of MV Agusta, on raising the speed limits in Italy. I can see why he would want this, but I doubt the Italian government will see it as a safe move. After all, MV Agusta motorcycles are meant to be ridden fast...
http://tinyurl.com/ygr372z
Now, another race in the NZ Tri-Series has been run and the final winners lauded and awarded. In the F1 Superbike class, Andrew Stroud took the title. Monday Afternoon Moto News from Around the World
This afternoon is a bit less crazy than this morning, which means that it is very quiet now. Hopefully, this is because many people in the motorcycle industry are at home with their families!
First up here is the Road Racer X round-up of birthdays and other important events in motorcycle history. We have birthdays for Jurgen van den Goodbergh, William S. Harley, Sergio Gadea, Alex Gramigni, Jordan Szoke, Kenny Roberts, Phil Read, SpeedTV (yes, the TV network), Luis d’Antin, Kel Carruthers, Shoichiro Irimajiri. And, the death of Cal Rayborn in 1973. There are some huge birthdays on that list, so go and take a look.

Rossi has said that he will not be participating in the 2010 Le Mans 24 Hours. He was going to ride with Jean Alesi in a Ferrari 430 GT2, but has decided not to join the event. He wants nothing to distract him from MotoGP in 2010.
http://tinyurl.com/y85b6kn
Of course, Rossi has also said that Ben Spies will be a tough competitor in the 2010 MotoGP championship, but I think we already knew that.

Marco Melandri is looking for some stability in his racing career. Honestly, I am in complete agreement; I hope he has a wonderful 2010!

Monday Morning News from Around the Moto World
This is the first Monday beyond Christmas; some of you are working, and some of you are on holiday. Either way, we all like to know what is going on in the world of motorcycles...
First, a nice little video from the FIM Speedway Grand Prix round in Copenhagen this past June 2009. It's an incredible display even if the video is not high-quality. Take a look:
http://tinyurl.com/yb37usq
Now we have further news on the Donington Park fiasco. It has returned to the Wheatcroft family after the 150-year deal with Donington Ventures Leisure Limited failed to sell. The economy is certainly part of the problem, but there are other issues with the track itself. We all hope that someone will come in and rescue this historic British circuit.
http://tinyurl.com/ydlwuub
Here is an article on the least reliable motorcycles in the industry, and I bet you will not like what you see. The author based the placement on the number of recalls for each brand. Given this measuring stick, Harley-Davidson / Buell have the worst initial quality; Ducati is right after them (after all, they are the H-D of Italy); and, oddly enough, BMW is in third worst position...take a look.

Sunday Afternoon News from the Moto World
Well, the news has been very slow lately. All that seems to be popping up here and there are re-hashed stories from the last week or so. I have some news here, but not much. Take a look at the links below and enjoy what little new information we now have...
First, there is the sad news that Donington Park has yet to attract a buyer. We have no way of knowing what will happen to the circuit. It is in a state of disrepair was they were working to improve the track when old-troll Bernie Ecclestone withdrew from his Formula 1 contract with the owners.

Round two of the Suzuki Tri-Series is now in the books, and it was Italian stars who lit up the track on Boxing Day. This was their first trip to the Wanganui Cemetery Circuit.

Mid-Day Thursday News - Christmas Eve Edition
Yep, it's already more than halfway through Christmas Eve now and there is some news...
First of all, the usual drama of Orange County Choppers is getting even more complex. Paul Teutul, Sr., is suing his son over some stock options and it gets more complicated the further you dig. This family is mostly motivated by $$$, though, so this could be more than just a publicity stunt.

An article on the MV Agusta F4-1000R and its stature in the motorcycling world. It is a bike which many dream to own, thus making it a true 'dream machine'. Many feel they are lucky just getting to take one around a track, and it is a bike worthy of that praise.

We also have an interview with one of the more original builders in the custom chopper market. Mark Daley of Thunder Struck Custom Bikes is interviewed and his company's history discussed in this piece and I highly recommend that you head on over and have a look. It's nice to see that someone can move beyond the standard chopper silhouette and into creativity. His Sniper bike (shown here) won the 2009 Las Vegas Bikefest...

Thursday Morning Industry News - Christmas Eve Edition
There are only a few more posts here, but they are worth reading...
First, we have a report on a blog from someone who has been using the Bagster gear for riding in rather cold weather - read, freezing. They have a line of handmuffs which keep your hands warm and a heated apron / leg cover. The author takes both of them on the road and fins them well worth the investment if you have to ride in such conditions.

Thursday Morning Mixture of Moto News - Christmas Eve Edition - Part 2
Into the second post now...
We get news that Jorge Lorenzo wanted to quit MotoGP in 2008! This was due to his long list of serious crashes suffered in the class during the 2008 season - it was getting dangerous for him and might have ended his career prematurely. So, who can blame him for considering it...but, Rossi always crashed a great deal in his first season with each new class - except his debut on the 990.

Wednesday Morning Moto News from Around the Industry
A steampunk MV Agusta comes to us from MCN (UK), but it is not yet complete. So, I can only send you to the MCN article with just one photo. However, they link directly to the blog where the builder is posting his build photos as he completes his work. A rather interesting idea which would be cool to see finished.

Remembering the Aprilia Falco from 2000 to 2003; the bike was actually a great bargain for a well-made Italian road-burner. It made an excellent sport-tourer and is still available on the second-hand market for a good price.

A trip through Texas Hill Country on an Aprilia Caponord is well worth your time. The countryside is lovely, the weather tolerable, and the roads are fantastic. Of course, the bike is a real winner as well!

Nicky Hayden accidentally unveiled an image of the Ducati Desmosedici GP10 machine on his website. It's not as big of a deal as some are making out of it, but it is cool to have technology which provides us with rare inside looks like this.

Riders Wayne Ryan and Fraser Rogers will be helped through the Racing Steps Foundation - the first time it has ever done this. They can thank John Surtees as well! The real mission is to get another Brit into the championship lists - not since Barry Sheene in the 1970's has someone from the U.K. been there.

FIM Speedway Grand Prix 2009 Season Review
Very nice! Jason Crump, Greg Hancock - funny that he is not mentioned here even though he was also named AMA Racing Athlete of the Year - and Emil Sayfutdinov, the incredible new talent in 2009, all made for a fantastic season in FIM Speedway GP. It was sad for some, though, as many suffered serious setbacks during the season. Here's to hoping that 2010 will be an even better year for the series! I know I will be watching.

The Caberg Sintesi Helmet - Part II, A Follow Up
The original article was posted back in September of 2009, and the author did not exactly like the helmet - but, it had some nice innovations. Well, the new Sintesi from Caberg - an Italian company - has released a better version with many improvements. This is a rare bit of news. Honda - one of the world's foremost motorcycle racing powerhouses - will not be increasing their budget for the 2010 MotoGP Championship. Kawasaki to Exit DMG/AMA Pro Racing for 2010
We sort of knew it was coming, but it is finally official. Kawasaki will not run a factory race team in any of the DMG / AMA Pro Racing series for 2010. Fast Rising FIM Speedway GP Star - Genetic?
The 17 year-old Taylor Poole, who is the son of legendary Speedway star Mick Poole, is back home in Australia after doing serious practice and race time in England. Several Nicky Hayden Stories - MotoGP & Ducati News
First of all, we hear that Hayden is happy about the MotoGP switch to a 1000c.c. displacement. That is expected as the larger machines are better for his style of riding. With the change, we will probably see him climb further up the results charts in 2012 - but, he has already improved significantly on the Ducati over the 2009 season. Whichever way it goes, he is a talented rider who is only getting better.

Brilliant New Innovation - Digital Motorcycle Switchgear
Again, we come to an idea whose time is long past - this should have been done years ago as the technology became available. Grip Ace inventor Timothy Ledford has done what others told him was impossible. The idea here is to put the various switches - usually placed on pods next to the grips - on the grips themselves. It is a extensively useful product - especially for custom builders - and may allow the manufacturers to build even less cluttered motorcycle cockpits. Now the problem is the cost...for me, anyway.

PR: MV Agusta Launches New Website
Just received this today (no link as this is not online):
Varese 16th of November 2009 - MV Agusta never ceases to amaze. Following the launch of the new Brutale 990R and 1090RR last September, and the launch of the new F4 at EICMA Show, now the new website is online at www.mvagusta.it
Completely redesigned down to the last detail, from structure to layout, the new site is dynamic and easy to navigate, full of useful information, pictures and videos on all the new MV Agusta products.
The new platform includes an entirely new e-commerce section where users can purchase a complete collection of MV Agusta apparel as well as a large selection of MV Corse Special Parts for the F4 and Brutale. All orders will be shipped directly.
One of the biggest innovations is the 3D configurator that will be online in January 2010. The configurator, much like the ones present in the automotive industry, allows the user to specify the desired model, colour and version and view it from 8 different camera angles. The user will be able to select a wealth of accessories ranging from carbon fibre and alloy parts, to seats and performance accessories and view them on the bike in 3 dimensions. Once the desired parts are added to the bike, the user can choose to purchase them directly through our webstore.
In the next few months the site will be continuously updated with new exciting sections such as a virtual museum where you will be able to trace MV Agusta motorcycle history. A section called MV World will also feature and will contain videos, interviews, secrets and insights in our glorious brand and the people that make our fabulous motorcycles.
Our presence on widespread Social Networks, such as Facebook and YouTube, will continue to expand with content developed specifically to enhance interest in our brand. Our YouTube channel in particular has seen a massive flow of visits. Our F4 preview video alone has had more than 84,000 visits and is ranked as one of the top videos around the world in countries such as Italy, Germany, France, Australia, Holland, Spain, Canada, Brazil and Japan.

Singapore's Motorcycle Parking Problem
It's a weird situation there, but it is not only in Singapore that these problems exist. Many companies discriminate against motorcycles when it comes to parking. Again, this makes no sense as you can fit many more motorcycles in a garage than you can automobiles - so, they would have more space available and would make more money. Singapore, especially should be more friendly to motorcycles as they are very popular there. Well, read this story and see what they are doing about it.

Dennis Noyes on the MotoGP Switch to 1000cc...and More
We all know Noyes, and we all like the guy - I hope. Here is his piece on the MotoGP move to 1000c.c. and he is impressed with the simplified way they decided to implement the change for 2012. Even Brembo Is Struggling in this Economy
This horrible economy is taking away a great deal from our sport; motorcycling is suffering greatly with this recession, and we can only hope it will get better soon. Brembo has had to lay off hundreds (closer to thousands) of workers, shut down some production lines, and even rid itself of several executives. Their profits are down, and the company is having a tough time of it. If they were to fail, the loss to our industry - not to mention the performance auto industry - would be dramatic. Steve Parrish to Ride in Thundersprint 2010

HM Plant Honda Boss Against Two Rounds of Cadwell Park
Neil Tuxworth, the man in the title, does not like the idea of having the British Superbike Championship visit Cadwell Park twice in the season; he believes it would be better to take one away from Cadwell and go somewhere else in the nation to get better exposure to the sport. Funny thing is, Cadwell is his team's home circuit...he is looking for variety, and that makes sense. Of course, Cadwell benefited from Donington Park's loss...

MSS Colchester Kawasaki Now Has Andrews and Mason for 2010 BSB
Colchester Kawasaki is a big organization, fielding teams in many motorcycle race series throughout the UK. Their primary effort, though, is to be see in British Superbike. On that team, they will retain Simon Andrews and have added the very experienced Gary Mason for 2010. The two riders have a similar style and it should be a very solid team.

Team owner Nick Morgan is very optimistic for the 2010 season. He is certain that he has put together a winning team for the BSB series. Who would disagree?

Dale Finch Wins New Zealand Under-21 Championship at Invercargill
Finch had just come back from a major injury which saw him break his back and miss training for two years while he recovered. That is a true comeback if there ever was one. Four months ago he started back at it and immediately went racing. Lucky for him he did very well and now he holds a title!

NJMP wants to add a 10-acre motocross and ATV park to the track's amenities. The park has applied to the city planning board, who has now passed it on to the Millville City Commission. They will look it over and approve various parts, the pass back to the planning board...who...will - OK, go take the link and read it yourself, and enjoy the bureaucracy.

Michael Dunlop May Leave Norton for 2010
Dunlop had intended to ride the new Norton at the Isle of Man TT, but could not do so due to technical problems. He couldn't even get the bike in good enough shape to qualify for the Senior TT. The NRV588 is behind all of the competition, by a long way, and he is not sure it will be worth riding in the TT. He is not tied to them legally, so he is not walking on a contract. It's just that he is a racer and he should be on something with which he has a chance to win.

Rather Talented Motocross Family from Virginia - Ryan and Dillon Smith
The brothers Ryan and Dillon are 15 and 12, respectively, and they are very good motocross athletes. Ryan won the 'triple crown' (450 Open C, Schoolboy I, 250C classes) and Dillon managed to become double champion himself in the 85cc (ages 9 - 11) and the Unlimited Mini (9 - 13) classes. Filipino Marlou Acedera Won ASEAN Mechanic Contest 2009
I say won, because it actually happened earlier this year, but it was only today that something was written about it in the press (at least that I could find). It turns out that this mechanic is a very soft spoken man, but he did win the chance to work with the Castrol-sponsored San Carlo Gresini Honda team at the Sepang MotoGP round - he had a great time! Acedera is going to be a great mechanic, but he is already the best one in Asia!

Packard Bell Releases Images of Valentino Rossi Special Edition Notebook PC
Only in Italy will you find one - most likely - but it is painted up all pretty with a Rossi graphic - the sun and moon - and his race number, 46. From what can be told from the photo, it is a re-branded Acer Aspire with just a new cover added. The specifications have yet to be officially released. It does beg the question why they would not put this on their fastest computer they produce?

Moto Movie: Stone
That's one simple name, eh? It was filmed back in 1974 in Australia and it does have that "Mad Max" sort of vibe. The story is sort of run-of-the-mill, but the acting, stunts and even the script are not so bad for a film from this era. At least it may help you recover from watching "Torque" - one of the worst films ever put on celluloid. "Stone" may not be the best movie you see, but it is worth throwing in the DVD player while the racing world is in the off-season.

STIHL GB Continues Sponsorship for British Superbike Championship
This will be the third year for the power-tool manufacturer, STIHL, to sponsor the BSB series. They really feel that the motorcycle racing series is a great place to have themselves aligned with. This is due to many reasons, but it could simply be that the technology they produce and the high-tech nature of the race bikes match up quite well. No matter what they think, it is good to hear that the series will retain another sponsor.

Giacomo Agostini Has Put His Moto2 Project on Hold
Ago is taking a 'wait and see' approach to entering the Moto2 Championship series. According to him, he is in no hurry to get back into racing; he simply wants to be sure he and his team can be competitive and he wants to be sure there will be no serious limitations. So, maybe in 2011 we will see him running a World Championship team - I sure hope he does come back to at least run a team!
