3 - 4 October 2009 - this weekend - is the final weekend of motorcycle racing at Miller Motorsports Park until 2010. The last series will be the Plaza Cycle Masters of the Mountains Series event put together by the circuit, the Utah Sportbike Association and the American Motorcyclist Association. The weekend will feature 19 different classes competing for contingency money, trophies and points. Sound fun to me!

Some Good News - Sterilgarda Renews Sponshorship of Factory Yamaha WSBK Team
Italian food company Sterilgarda will sponsor the Factory Yamaha squad in the World Superbike Championship for 2010 no matter how the championship is decided. Once Leon Camier took the British Superbike Championship on the Airwaves YZF-R1, we could see the fast nature of the Yamaha mount. AMA Drafts Model Legislation for Cities in US to Use
This draft model is focused on on-highway motorcycle noise and is based on the new Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) J2825 standard. If this legislation is adopted instead of the relatively common draconian laws being passed nowadays, motorcyclists have little to worry about. The J2825 standard is well designed and will work to set a real standard for noise levels based on science, not the ears of a complaining public who always seem to miss those 'import tuner' cars running around everywhere. It is funny how our very small portion of the population we motorcyclists have seems to get blamed for so much mischief - it's all about image. If you know someone running rather loud pipes, please as that rider to quiet down for all of our sakes...

Yet Again, a Journalist Gets it Wrong on a Motorcycle Issue
Jason Sweeney interviewed several people for this article, but he failed to provide an interview with someone who disagreed with the opinions stated in the article, unfortunately. Lane-splitting is perfectly legal in California, and many motorcycle riders I know would like to see it that way all over the USA or the world. But, it can be dangerous just as all things have inherent risk. Training is not necessarily the answer, but a good class on when you should and when you should not split lanes would be useful - even posting signs designating certain areas as 'no-splitting' areas could solve many problems - after all, they do have plenty of 'No Passing' signs. Lane-splitting is amazingly useful in the traffic of California and it would be very nice to have up here in Portland where I live!

Ben Spies Determined to Race in MotoGP Championship
No matter how the season ends for Yamaha-mounted Ben Spies, he wants to go to MotoGP. This has been his stated goal for several years now, and he has been working very hard for the chance. Since switching to Yamaha for his World Superbike ride, he now has a very good chance of ending up in the series...Too bad for Suzuki, eh?

Apparently, Triumph's 2010 line-up was accidentally released to the Internet - and it is spreading like a wildfire! Some of the biggest news is the new for 2010 Rocket III Roadster, an 'ultimate muscle streetfighter' as they call it. BMW Having Some Success in World Superbike
However, I am rather sure it is not the success they were hoping for. At Imola, Xaus managed two top thirteen finishes after coming back from injury. Troy Corser managed an 11th place finish in race 1, but had a DNF in race 2; both issues brake-related. BMW has one of the most powerful stock bikes on the grid, so I think we should see better finishes next year once they have the machine sorted for racing. Even given this, BMW has had a good season considering they are using a NIB motorcycle...

"Tradition is Not a Business Model" Article Discusses the NEW American Motorcycle Companies
Written by Jensen Beeler, from Asphalt & Rubber and a motorcycle industry consultant, this piece is something which we should have heard before. Building the 'American' motorcycle need not be an exercise in turning a V-twin into a sportbike. Instead, we should be looking to the new electric motorcycle companies for our home-grown US motorcycle production...this is the first in a series, so check the site about once a week to get updates (I will post them here as I see them).

Simoncelli Looks to Finish in Top 5 at Imola
Marco Simoncelli will be riding the new Aprilia RSV-4 in the World Superbike round at Imola, but not even Biaggi has been able to keep it reliably at the front this year - of course, it is definitely a 'development' year for Aprilia since the bike is brand new. Given his practice success, though, he just may be able to keep himself at the front throughout the weekend...we will see!

Auto Moto's New Three-Wheeled Scooter Debuts in Minnesota
This is the first time I have seen this machine, and it calls to mind the BMW C1 - except that this one has 3 wheels! This man is a real inspiration in many ways - first of all, I am old and I hope to still be riding when I get to his age - and he also has the most notable bike in Kenya, apparently. Moto Morini Files for Bankruptcy and Liquidation - Very Sad News
Moto Morini, the Italian marque which makes such standouts as the 120 Scrambler, 1200 Sport, 9 1/2, and Granpasso has announced that they are unable to pay their employees this month.
