Biaggi was interviewed recently and said that he thinks Lorenzo is the future of MotoGP. According to Biaggi, Lorenzo has what it takes to become a top talent in the paddock - and to possibly win more races than Biaggi has thus far in his career. At least Max has found a nice home at Aprilia in WSBK.

TTXGP Still Racing in Britain - Three New Races Scheduled
So, along with the TTXGP at the 2010 Isle of Man TT and the recently-announced Infineon round, the three new TTXGP races in the United Kingdom will make it five races in the series - so far. And, of course, there is the finale, which has yet to be scheduled - so, six events. That is not bad for the first year of a series using motorcycles which were designed just months ago - some may not have even reached the drawing board yet. 2010 will be a good year for motorcycle racing.

A Fate From an Adventure - Brammo Across the USA
Nathan Abbott wanted to take a ride - and he was already an adventurer of some note - on a Brammo electric motorcycle from Oregon to his home in Georgia. However, though he had a very lucky life up to this point, that luck ran out (as so many people's luck does once they get to Oregon) in Roseburg, Oregon, where he was struck from behind by a young person driving an Audi. He is in the hospital now and doing better, but he has a very long recovery ahead of him. Take the link, please, and see to it that he gets some help.

First Bad Impression: 2010 Honda VFR1200F
The first long-distance road ride aboard the new 2010 Honda VFR1200F at MCN (UK) did not go very well. Their rider complained that the bike is just not up to snuff against the competition - BMW, Ducati, etc. And, it does not even connect with you emotionally. Maybe he was having a bad day, or maybe it is true that the new Honda is just not where it should be...yet.

The Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP Team Wall Will Remain
It seems that the wall necessitated by the ongoing ill will between Colin Edwards and James Toseland (if you do not know about it, look it up) in the Tech 3 garage will remain in place in 2010. Even though Spies and Edwards are actually quite good mates, the team has said that nothing will change in the paddock as far as the separation is concerned. They say that it now provides practical use...

Dymag Racing UK in Bankruptcy? It Seems So
I have not seen a single blurb anywhere about this, but this posting seems to make it perfectly clear. Dymag - makers of some wonderful motorcycle wheels - has gone bankrupt and is selling off their equipment. I do not know why this news would be missed by the larger publications as it seems pretty major. After all, their products are everywhere and used by many people. They were also the first company to produce a magnesium motorcycle racing wheel. I hope this is just some mistake...

Ipswich Witches British Speedway Team Signs Scott Nicholls and Danny King for 2010
For the 2010 British Speedway Championship, the Ipswich Witches have signed Nicholls and King to carry their banner. As to whether they will ride in the FIM series, we will have to wait. Nicholls has already captured the British crown 5 times - not to mention the various other championships he has won - and will be more than ready for 2010 after racing in some rounds of the FIM Speedway GP. King has several honors of his own and has also raced in the FIM class, so Ipswich looks to be ready to win in 2010!

Why We Should Be Thankful the FIM Split from TTXGP
Well, the reasoning in this article is very good and makes sense. However, we still have not seen Azhar Hussain have any issues related to his participation in the TTXGP and his Mavizen electric motorcycle. It is easy to see that a conflict of interest could arise in that situation, though. So, maybe it is better that the FIM created their own series for racing e-motorcycles. Honestly, though, the racing in this class has only just begun, so no one really knows where it will go...I bet it does very well!

Hector Barbera and Ducati Testing Goes Well for Rookie MotoGP Rider
Barbera was very happy with his rookie test aboard the Ducati Desmosedici; he had at least one day of good weather in which to test. He was not there to hit good lap times, but to work on the traction control and engine management. Tech 3 to Debut Their Moto2 Motorcycle on Tuesday

Willy Neutkens' Extensive BMW Collection Now 100% Sold
Bonhams handled the auction - and it is good that they did as the bidding was frantic and there were interested parties from all over the world. The original estimate for the total value of the sale was at €590,000 (US$884,145); in the end, though, it turned out to be a €1,038,400 (US$1,556,094) auction - almost double the estimate. Motorcycle Racer Magazine Has New Owner
Apparently, Motorcycle Racer magazine is the largest motorcycle racing magazine in the world. Well, they now have new ownership - in these days of acquisitions and mergers, it is not unexpected. The U.K. group Fourth Street Media Ltd has purchased the title from past owners, Mortons Media Group Ltd. It is all done and production of the magazine should not be affected.

Department for Transport’s Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Program Adds 25 Entries
The SHARP program tests helmets for strength and protection, then rates the helmets on a five star scale. It's a decent idea, but there are many standards to meet these days. At least some of them are getting more representative of the real world. The United Kingdom is really leading the world in motorcycle safety research, and we should all thank them for their good work. Road Safety Minister Paul Clark is doing quite well in his position - the list is up to 175 now. Head on over to the site and check out your lid - mine is 5-star rated, luckily...

Nice AGV Backmarker at Road Racer X Magazine
I had to post this one because it is a really good article. There are some misses, sure, but not much. Mark Gardiner writes a good piece which includes the things he is "thankful for." It is great that he mentions the AMA's efforts in trying to raise awareness of the distracted driver issue, which cannot be mentioned enough anywhere - and a really good reason that the electric motorcycle industry is doing so well now. The short bit about getting his US Green Card and the Department of Homeland Security was interesting, but I think he actually left out the more absurd parts of his experience. On this Thanksgiving Day (in the US), remember that there are some things which all of us are actually grateful for in this life.

Olga Kevelos - Two-Time ISDT Gold Medal Winner - Has Passed Away
Olga Kevelos was a preeminent woman motorcyclist of her time in her home country of England - and she was 85 years old when she died on 28 October 2009. She raced off-road and on-road motorcycles for much of her post-World War II life, and made many friends along the way. She was so popular that she was invited to attend the Foreign Office reception held to celebrate the Czech Republic's entry into the EU. She is survived by her brother Ray. AHRMA Racer David Matthews Still Going Strong
At 55 years of age, and living in Mooresville, North Carolina, he still likes to go fast - I can only hope I have his passion when I get that age (which is not far away for me). He took home two championships in the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association 2009 season - SumperMono (SM) and SuperMono2 (SM2) - both classes for single cylinder motorcycles. He also won both Regional Championships in both classes in the MidWest and Pacific Regions! His weapon of choice is a 1996 MuZ Skorpion 660 and his competition knows the backside of it all too well.

Early Reports from Invercargill Burt Munro Challenge
First we hear of a club out of Auckland, Deus ex Machina. They love to make custom builds and have created some very interesting designs. Mostly, they fill their showroom with 1970's era motorcycles which they then tweak and twist into a rather individual piece of art. At the Burt Munro Challenge, the team will do their best to win each and every event - but, their primary goal will be to have fun!
http://tinyurl.com/y8f4qeo
Next, an interesting person showed up at the event in Invercargill - an almost perfect double for Burt Munro himself. Sandy Begbie, who has been riding motorcycles for most of his 80 years, also brought along his wife and three daughters. Many other riders also came into town in preparation for the events this weekend.

Confederate Motors Teams with Kushitani to Produce Apparel
Well, the first showing of the new gear will be at the Los Angeles Auto Show which runs from 4 - 13 December 2009. The agreement will bring several new leather designs for the Confederate Motor motorcycle line. Obviously, there is no worry about the gear being made outside of the US - this is mostly due to the very well-known quality of Kushitani leather. The EICMA BMW Concept 6 - a Detailed Look

2009 Sydney Motorcycle Show Halied as Huge Success
Australians showed up at the Sydney Motorcycle Show in droves (though not as many as usual; it was down by 22%, but more than expected), and the exhibitors saw big sales and were very optimistic after the show wrapped up. So, it has finally been given to at least one journalist for a test ride, after all of these years of waiting. MCN (UK) managed to get a test ride on the new Norton Commando 961 SE at a sunny English track. The author loved the ride and said that the riding position, the handling, the engine - all of the aspects are top-notch, though the suspension is firm, as it should be for this kind of ride. It does behave like you would expect a parallel-twin to, which is what Norton was trying for, and it just looks oh-so-good.

Maybe Lorenzo Will Race for Ducati in 2011?
Well, the rumors - as usual - are flying about and most of them concern the Rossi - Lorenzo animosity. First of all, I would think that much of it is overblown, but it is also sad when two high-end competitiors cannot get along - even just off the track would be nice considering they are bitter rivals. Rossi has stated publicly that he would like to race alongside someone else, but not much has been made about this by him recently. 2011 is the chance, though, for either or them to walk away from Yamaha. Ducati pays the best, so we may see a Lorenzo->Ducati move instead of Rossi leaving his team...

I have to admit that it is some very close racing and it is really worth paying attention to as someday a few of these racers will become pros!

Bridgestone 2009 MotoGP Season Review
It was the first year of the single tire rule in MotoGP, and many would like to know the inside story about how well it went - or not. Turns out that the year was not so bad; there were issues, sure, but nothing catastrophic (hopefully nothing like that will happen to any racing series). The Bridgestone tires held up rather well overall, but there is always room for improvement. 2010 should be an even better year for the tire brand.

An Interview With Former KTM 125 Racer Marc Marquez
Marquez will not be on KTM next year as they have pulled out of the Grand Prix series. So, the eight place overall finisher in 2009 will be tackling a new Aprilia for 2010 in the 125c.c. class. He will be riding for the AJO Team, who had some success in 2008 with Mike di Meglio. So, hear what Marc has to say...

Modern Motorcycle Riding Gear Tested Against Old Technology
It was back in the 1980's that motorcycle gear was just starting to diversify. For the longest time, the leather jacket and bucket of a fiberglass helmet were the norm on a motorcycle - if you wore a helmet then. Nowadays, though, things are much different; we have high-tech fabrics, electrically heated gear, Kevlar and carbon fiber helmets - and some awesome adventure gear too. So, as part of the U.K. motorcycle industry group's 'Get On' campaign, this huge leap in protective gear is being tested and evaluated to show just how far we have come.

Aprilia to Run Two World Superbike Teams? New Rumors (again)...
We heard it a few weeks ago before the end of the 2009 World Superbike season, and now it has surfaced again; Aprilia may go ahead with plans to have to teams in WSBK. We already know that Camier may join Biaggi at the current singular factory team. The newest news is that the Guandalini team may switch from Ducati machinery to Aprilia. Currently, this other team only has Jacob Smrz under contract for 2010 - so, there could be another new Aprilia rider in 2010.

Information Released About Canadian Version of Norton Commando 961 SE
The Commando 961 will actually be shown at the Toronto Motorcycle Show next month - as you should know from previous posts. So, now Norton has released some details about the units which will be sold in Canada. It's a rather sweet list of components all linked together by a lovely design courtesy of Kenny Dreer. University of Minnesota Students Present Motorcycle for Paraplegics
I have seen a show on one of these motorcycles before - some rider who lost the use of his legs and so he and another engineer produced one which worked for him; it was so cool to see him riding again! Motorcycle Book: The Grand Prix Motorcycle by Kevin Cameron of Cycle World
Cycle World's Kevin Cameron is a very well-known motorcycle nerd (not unlike myself) and he knows what he is writing about (not like me) - everything about a motorcycle. His knowledge is deep and he even admits when he is wrong - and manages to teach us something at the same time. His "The Grand Prix Motorcycle" covers every 500c.c./MotoGP Motorcycle Grand Prix era since 1949 up to 2008 - and, he details several championship winning grand prix motorcycles. It is a good read, but having a pen and paper to work out equations which he bandies about is a good idea...

Hero Honda Rolls Out 11 Millionth Honda Splendor Motorcycle
Hero Honda of India has now produced 11,000,000 100c.c. Splendor motorcycles. That's a huge number of any kind of vehicle! It is an impressive number, which probably would have been sooner had the factory not had union and other problems (the workers are happier now and so is management). The Indian market is rather self-contained, but people there ride motorcycles regularly and there are plenty of them. Still, 11 million is big.

Australian Superbike Championship Finale at Phillip Island Preview
So, here we have two stories (so far)...
First, there is Oleon Motologic Racing’s Glenn Allerton, who was champion in 2008, is currently two points ahead of challenger Suzuki’s Josh Waters. Allerton's teammate, Wayne Maxwell, sits in third - only nine points away from his partner. Their Honda CBR1000RRs are ready to race this weekend at Phillip Island.
http://tinyurl.com/yghgr2d
Next, we have Teterin Motosport rider Jordan Burgess, who is very eager for this weekend to start. He sits in second place behind Pat Medcalf, who is 51 points ahead. It is possible for the Motologic Racing-prepared Honda Fireblade CBR1000RR-mounted rider to take the championship, but Medcalf would have to make a mistake for things to go to plan...

Even More Economic Issues - Harley-Davidson Suffering with Huge Inventory

Yoshimura Suzuki Leaving Japanese MFJ National Championship
The Yoshimura team will move on to contend three or four World Superbike events, the Suzuka 300, and the Suzuka 8-Hours. This is in reaction to the Japanese MFJ National series moving towards rules like the DMG/AMA Pro racing series - as opposed to moving the regulations closer to World Superbike. No one wants to race in AMA anymore, so why would the MFJ series move that way? That's a good question, I hope someone asks them!

As reality is, this means nothing more than 'we know there are many dangers in some areas of transport and we do need to solve those issues', but it is a major step from the United Nations (UN). Know Much About The American Motorcyclist Association's Financials?
Well, probably not - unless you work there! The long awaited Form 990 document was filed, and the report was provided by the Guidestar site; they are a sort of non-profit watchdog. Nothing bad here, but also no direct information about how much was paid for AMA Pro Racing (essentially - it has had many names now) by DMG. Most are just curious, but some are truly interested. Well, it is left off of this form, but Paradama - so, this could be some indication. Anyway, if you are interested in your organization, go and take a look. Husaberg Rider Joakim Ljunggren Wins Night Race at AMA EnduroCross Finale
It was the first EnduroCross race in the US for Husaberg factory rider Ljunggren, but that only seemed to make him want to compete all the more. He had some terrible luck in the heat and semi-final races, but they had him ride in the 'night' event with the other racers and he took that event by storm. He impressed the crowd and the officials - now we can see that Ljunggren can hold his own in the US series.

Early Results from Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Desert Race
Well, probably the most well-known motorcycle racer in Baja 1000 racing, Johnny Campbell, had his team on the top spot in Class 22 on their Honda CRF450X. The team consisted of Kendall Norman, Tim Weigand and Quinn Cody - also some well recognized off-road racers. The race consisted of a 672.85-mile course of natural desert terrain; it started for the 35th time and finished for the 20th time in Ensenada, Mexico, 65 miles south of the U.S. border at San Diego. Over 250,000 fans were in attendance at the historic race...

Rossi's Team Finishes Third in Class at 6-Hour Vallelunga Endurance Event
True, he was not on his trusty motorcycle, but confined inside a Ferrari which had its own host of mechanical problems. The issues with the car did cause them to lose ground to the other teams, but they still managed third in class and eleventh overall. Very good considering everything, but I am sure that Rossi wanted first place!

German "Uberbike" - eROCKIT - Electric Bicycle
Maybe it could be called a motorcycle, but it does have pedals. No matter which it qualifies as, it is a two-wheeled powered vehicle and that's good enough. The German machine combines aspects of bicycle and motorcycle and can achieve up to 50 mph (80 kph), maybe more. It must be pedaled to work correctly; the eROCKIT will not go anywhere if you are not putting in some energy. Very interesting fitness idea...

Yamaha to Have Big Showing at Carole Nash International Show
They may be leaving several racing series around the world and their profits are all but non-existent, but Yamaha will make a full go at it when the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter show starts at the NEC later this week. Yamaha will have on display several of their new machines along with Toseland's YZR-M1 and Spies' World Championship YZF-R1. Also, noted in this article is the Silverstone booth at the NEC - that is reason enough to attend the show. After all, saving that kind of money on a MotoGP race is something you just do not pass up.

Vermeulen Begins Duties at Kawasaki WSBK Team
Chris Vermuelen was not allowed to test at the final round of the World Superbike Championship in Portimao because his bosses at Rizla Suzuki would not allow it. So, over in Japan he is now getting his first taste of the Kawasaki ZX-10R he will be riding in next year's championship season. Shock! Suzuki Will NOT Import 2010 Models to US Until 2009 Models Sold
According to reports, Suzuki has not announced any 2010 street-bike models because they believe that the 2009 models already on showroom floors should satisfy customers. This means no 2010 GSX-R models, no new Suzuki cruisers, and possible no dual-sports either. This economy is forcing even the big companies to re-think normal business behaviors...

Tecate 500 Runner-up William Ray “Bill” Halbert Passes Away...
Bill Halbert was a respected man in his community and in the motorcycling world in general. You may not have heard of him, but he probably has made a difference to many people over the years. He was a resident of Brookings, Oregon, and one-time owner of the Grand Prix Motorcycle shop in Lynwood, Washington. He also was both a parts manager and regional sales manager for Husqvarna Motorcycle. He even raced in AMA District 38 desert races - his favorite: Tecate Baja 500, where he finished as high as second place overall with his team. He passed away on 14 November 2009. Hector Arana Presented With NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship
Hector Arana won 5 of 6 finals and qualified in first place nine times! He takes home check for $75,000 from NHRA and Full Throttle for his Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship. The Buell rider performed very well in the 2009 season and he took home a championship for all of that work. Oh, and no worries about Buell being gone now, the engines they use in Pro Stock Motorcycle are only loosely based on the Milwaukee V-twins. Good luck next year Arana!

The Nolan N-43 Trilogy Motorcycle Helmet
While not much of a review, it is at least a good introduction to the new Nolan N-43 Trilogy. They say that it is six helmets in one, and there is good evidence to support that assertion. More Confusion Over Donington Park's Future
It seems that Bernie Ecclestone may be open to signing an agreement with a new leaseholder at Donington Park to put the British Formula 1 Grand Prix back at the track. However, nothing has been signed and nothing promised. The real question is what will happen to motorcycle racing at the track if they cannot get a cash-cow like F1 to stop in and race? No one knows at this point - even the Ron Haslam Race School is up in the air now. All of this has also left the new work being done to the track on hold - so, there is dirt and holes everywhere around the circuit and it is not yet fit to race upon.

Aprilia to Drop Moto2 Attempt for Possible MotoGP Run
It seems that the talk of returning to 1000c.c. motorcycles to compete in the MotoGP series has Aprilia thinking of a return to MotoGP. If you remember back a few years, it was Colin Edwards who first rode for Aprilia on the ill-fated Aprilia Cube MotoGP machine. Well, with the RSV-4 doing so well on tracks around the world, it just might be a good idea to see if they actually create the so-called Moto1. If so, Aprilia will have to build a prototype engine and chassis for the championship - they would not be allowed to use the RSV-4 due to the current rules and the World Superbike owners not wanting any competition with their series...sounds a little confusing, and it is...

Kevin Schwantz Get Attacked by Germs at Rossi's Charity MX Event
It's true, but not something anyone would want to happen. Schwantz was taking part in the Valentino Rossi charity motocross event in Italy last weekend. He started to feel bad by Sunday morning, but he just thought it was being a bit out of shape as far as riding motocross machines - it can be tough on anyone's body. Very Cool New Helmet Technology - ThermaHelm
This comes from the Sussex University Innovation Centre - located in the U.K. - and is probably one of the most interesting safety features that has been seen yet. It is called ThermaHelm and its job is to keep your head and, its valuable contents, your brain cool after an accident. It fits into any helmet and is composed of two lightweight and non-toxic chemical packs which act like an instant-on ice pack. So, right inside your helmet you have a cooler activated if a severe shock is registered against the helmet. The benefits are obvious and it may even become available for retro-fitting in your current lid.
